Shooting Sports

These reservations have ranges for .22 cal. single shot rifles, 12- and 20-gauge shotguns, BB guns, and archery. The ranges and all necessary equipment may be rented by units who can provide certified instructors. The camps can also provide certified instructors for all programs at our ranges. Instructors are assigned based on their personal availability.

Outdoor Ranges

Covered outdoor ranges at both camps are available when the camps are open during the months of September to November and April to June. Outdoor ranges are closed during the winter months of December through March.

Fees for Outdoor Ranges

Guns/bows, ammunition/arrows, targets and safety equipment are all included.

Indoor Ranges

The heated Kent Center at Mt. Allamuchy Scout Reservation’s Camp Wheeler is available for rent to units with at least two qualified/trained instructors for BB guns or archery. Rentals are for a three-hour period at a cost of $90. In addition, regularly scheduled instructor-led BB gun and archery programs are held Saturday mornings and afternoons throughout the year. Guidelines

Make range reservations at least three weeks in advance.
Only a certified instructor can operate the shooting sports area. For rifle and shotgun programs, the certification must be National Rifle Association Rifle Instructor, National Camp School Shooting Sports Director, or an equivalent certification. For BB gun and archery programs, the instructor has to provide proof of completion of training by a National Camp School Shooting Sports Director. Completion of a PPC-sponsored BB or archery range master training session is acceptable. A copy of a current certification must be received and be approved before a troop’s registration will be processed. A range contract will be issued which lists specific responsibilities.
Only Patriots’ Path Council owned equipment can be used on camp shooting sports ranges.
